This policy explains what information trivia.co.ke ("we", "us") collects when you play our games, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Who we are

trivia.co.ke is operated from Nairobi, Kenya. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@trivia.co.ke.

Information we collect

Game data stored on your device

Our games save your progress — your current puzzle, guesses, and streak — in your own browser using local storage. Your browser also keeps a random player ID there, created the first time you play. Clearing your browser data removes both.

Anonymous game statistics

When you play, the game sends our server that random player ID together with basic facts about your game: the date, whether you started and finished, your result (such as score, number of guesses, time taken and hints used), whether you tapped Share, the type of device and browser you're using (for example "Android phone, Chrome"), and, if you arrived through a tagged link or another website, where you came from. In NENO, we also record words you try that aren't yet in our word list, so we can review them and add real Sheng words.

The player ID is not linked to your name, phone number, email, or any account, and we do not store your IP address with these statistics. We use them only to count players, see which puzzles are too hard or too easy, and improve the games. We do not use them for advertising and we do not sell them.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our servers and service providers automatically record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you view. This is used to keep the site secure, working, and to understand general usage.

Analytics

We may use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand how many people play, which games are popular, and how the site performs. These tools use cookies and similar technologies and may collect usage data in aggregated, non-identifying form.

Advertising

We may display advertising, including through Google AdSense. Advertising partners may use cookies to show relevant ads and measure their performance. You can learn about and control personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings and the options at aboutads.info.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them for essential site function, for analytics, and for advertising as described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well without them.

How we use information

• To run and improve our games and website.
• To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
• To understand usage through anonymous game statistics and aggregated analytics.
• To display advertising that helps keep the games free.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the site — such as our web host, security and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare), analytics, and advertising partners — and where required by law.

Your rights

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to certain processing. To make a request, email hello@trivia.co.ke. You may also contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) if you have concerns.

Children

Our games are suitable for a general audience, and some content supports learning. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the automatic, anonymous and on-device data described above. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will address it.

Data retention & security

On-device game data remains until you clear it. Anonymous game statistics are kept for as long as they help us run and improve the games; because they aren't linked to you, we usually can't pick out one person's records, but clearing your browser data starts you afresh with a new player ID. Server and analytics logs are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. We take reasonable technical measures to protect the site, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows the latest version. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
